INSPIRATION STATION

There are MANY of you Silverwolf supporters out there who can inspire others--I need your stories! Do you or someone you know runs, bikes, swims, or does all three? Do you know of someone who has made a significant health transformation?

Please email me at steven.galley@jordan.k12.ut.us and let's spread some of this inspiration around!

Kathy Bye (Dance Teacher/R.H.S.)

Kathy's name is synonymous with the word "enthusiasm" at R.H.S. so I was not surprised at all when she approached me with the offer to raise money for the TRANSFORMnow Scholarship Fund. Let's see what makes her tick . . .

Q & A with Kathy

Q: How young are you and why do you teach?
A: I am 43, happily married with 5 wonderful children ages 4-18. I teach (dance) because I love it and I love dancing.

Q: Why do you run?
A: I run to keep in shape because I noticed that everything that used to be north is now starting to slide south! And when I turned 40 I wanted to prove to myself that I can still do something that is difficult and worthwhile. I have only been running seriously for 3 1/2 years, I jogged before that to fight boredom.

Q: What motivates you to keep running?
A: Good health, staying physically fit, and to prove to myself that I can do it.

Q: Why a marathon, I mean do you realize that it is 26.2 miles long?!
A: My brother-in-law (Brad) and his business partner in St. George came up with the hairbrain idea to run the marathon. Brad is not athletic, but he did it! He had to walk a lot, but he finished! I was amazed and thought if he could do it, then surely I could do it, especially with my background in dance. So I signed up with my sister (Brad's wife) and also recruited another sister, and we all ran. Now we run every year and have even recruited yet another sister! It has turned into a family affair!

Q: So, how many marathons have you ran?!
A: I have run 3--this year will make 4 total.

Q: Was one race more memorable than the others?
A: The second one was my favorite because I really trained hard for it and I knocked one hour and ten minutes off my first marathon time. But, this year is going to be my best because I'm going to achieve my goal of breaking the 4 hour--30 minute mark!

Q: What is your advice to runners in their first marathon?
A: Don't stop until you cross the finish line! I also use a training program for intermediates. I think I got it off of Runer's World on the internet. It is a 16 week schedule that requires 20-25 miles per week and two rest days.

GO KATHY . . . BREAK 4:30!
